Back in 1994, Hampidjan sold its first super-rope to the oil industry, replacing a steel wire on a seismic vessel operated by PGS (Petroleum Geo-Services). In the years to follow, the oil industry has become an increasingly important segment of Hampidjan‘s operations, leading to the development of a number of tailor-made products for the industry, including powerful lifting straps used in various oil production related projects. Subsequently, other related opportunities have emerged as viable avenues of growth, for instance in projects related to the installation of offshore wind turbines and the use of DynIce Warps for deep-sea winches.
“Interesting opportunities lie ahead, both in new markets and also by way of new solutions being developed for more traditional applications, such as mooring ropes, lifting straps, deep-sea winches and cranes. This requires substantial effort in product development, marketing and business development, and in order to ensure the optimal handling of these opportunities, independence and a focused strategy are required. We have therefore decided to strengthen this department of Hampidjan‘s operations by establishing a new Icelandic subsidiary, Hampidjan Offshore, to handle these industries going forward.” says Hjörtur Erlendsson, CEO of Hampidjan Group.
“Davíð Waage, who has been the department's sales and marketing manager since joining us in 2011, will be the Managing Director of Hampidjan Offshore and lead it in our quest to bring new products into current and new markets, and we wish him all the best in his new position.”
